Online Desk : July Martyred Memorial Foundation general secretary and Jatiya Nagorik Committee’s chief organizer Sarjis Alam has said India’s relations with Bangladesh will be determined through their deeds. “If India wants to maintain friendly ties with Bangladesh, it must have to return killer Sheikh Hasina instead of sheltering her on their soil. People of Bangladesh will try her,” he said. Sarjis Alam was speaking as the chief guest at a function styled “Bangladesh besides martyred families” organized by Martyred Memorial Foundation at Rajshahi District Shilpakala Academy early Saturday (December 14) afternoon.
He also cautioned that the interim government’s Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus will also not be spared if he tries to betray with the spirit of the July Uprising. Sarjis Alam said instead of punishing, lobbying is going on for new postings of the police personnel who were involved in the killings of July martyrs. In this regard, he said that police are not accepting the cases, in which, the names of killer police personnel have been mentioned. Leaders of different political parties and high officials of the administration are also involved in making compromise over filing those cases. They also started ‘backdoor negotiations’ to save leaders of killer Awami League, Jubo League and Chhatra League taking money from them.
Besides, police personnel have indulged in making financial benefits with filing of cases. Addressing the police administration, Sarjis said, “We don’t expect lobbying for any political party. You don’t do this. Bangladesh will get corrected within the next six months if police administration show responsible behavior.” Referring to the exhuming the July-August martyrs from their respective graves for postmortem, he asked if Sheikh Mujib’s dead body was not exhumed from his grave for the trial of his murder, why the bodies of July-August martyrs would have to be exhumed from their graves? “The bodies of martyrs won’t be allowed to exhume from their graves anymore,” he said.
“We want to make one thing clear to all concerned including the Home Ministry and Justice Ministry that you can’t exhume the bodies of those martyrs four months after their deaths sitting on the chairs over their blood,” he said. Sarjis Alam later handed over cheques of Tk 5 lakh each to 46, out of 63 families, of July-August martyrs of Rajshahi division at the function. Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Khondker Azim Ahmed, Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Abu Sufian, and several coordinators of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement also addressed the function. Members of the families of martyrs were present.
