Online Desk  :   The Director General (DG) of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Akhtar Hossain said the ACC has decided to conduct reinvestigation into Padma Bridge graft case which had been settled earlier 10 years ago. A total of seven people, including former secretary Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, will be investigated again in the Padma Bridge consultant recruitment corruption case. Akhtar Hossain announced this decision at the ACC office in Segun Bagicha of the capital on Tuesday.

The ACC Director General said that the case was filed by Banani Police Station for a criminal conspiracy connected to award work orders to SNC-Lavalin International Inc., one of the bidders in the tender for the appointment of the construction supervision consultant for the Padma Multipurpose Bridge Project, through conspiratorial activities of bribery. After the investigation, an FIR was filed in the court in 2014. The commission has decided to further investigate the case after reviewing the case.

The ACC filed a case (Case No. 19) against a total of seven people at Banani Police Station in the capital on December 17, 2012. The accused in the case were the then Secretary of the Bridges Department, Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, former Superintending Engineer Kazi Md Ferdous, former Executive Engineer of the Roads and Highways Department Md Riaz Ahmed Jaber, Deputy Managing Director of EPC Golam Mostafa, Vice-President of Canadian engineering firm SNC Lavalin Kevin Wallace, former Vice-President of the International Projects Department Ramesh Shah, and former Director Mohammad Ismail.

After more than a year and a half of investigation, the ACC acquitted the accused from the case on September 3, 2014. This was accepted by the court on September 17 of that year. The case was investigated by a team led by the then Deputy Director of the ACC Mirza Zahidul Alam. Former Communications Minister Syed Abul Hossain was among the suspects in the Padma Bridge corruption conspiracy case. They were also cleared of the charges through the FRT of the case.
