Online Desk  :   BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called upon the interim government to hold election as early as possible. He has also said that people of the country will have to be rescued by holding an election as quickly as possible. The BNP Secretary General made the remarks taking part in a discussion organized on the occasion of 46th founding anniversary of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) at Institution of Engineers Auditorium in the capital on Wednesday (January 1) afternoon.

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman joined the discussion virtually from London. The discussion was presided over by JCD president Rakibul Islam Rakib and moderated by general secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir. Addressing the interim government, Mirza Fakhrul said: “Please make necessary arrangement for holding the election after completing minimum reforms. The crisis that has been created can only be resolved through an election. Only a politically elected government can resolve the existing crisis.” He alleged that conspiracy to split the BNP had unfortunately started again. There were many attempts in the past to split the BNP, but it could not be successful. BNP’s politics is the politics of people of this country. Those who say that BNP doesn’t want reforms, they don’t know the history. “Our leaders went door-to-door at the grassroots level with 31-point charter. BNP itself was also born through reforms.” The BNP Secretary General said Ziaur Rahman had introduced multi-party democracy freeing the nation from the grip of BKSAL. “We think reforms are an ongoing process. Reforms will have to carry on responding to the necessity of people. We can’t allow to do anything else in the name of reforms which will disrupt our democracy.”
