Online Desk  :   The protesting students of seven colleges have announced to take position to the streets once again, if the number of seats in the admission test is reduced by more than half and a new admission test is held under Dhaka University, At the same time, they demanded issuance of notification to establish an autonomous university by combining the seven colleges within the next month and also demanded that the admission test for the 2024-25 session be held under it.

The protesting students of seven colleges said this at a press conference in front of the Shaheed Minar of Dhaka College on Saturday afternoon. Abdur Rahman, the spokesperson of the movement, read out a written statement at the time to convert seven colleges into independent universities. He said, “Our long-standing exploitation and deprivation under Dhaka University is going to end. The government has formed a high-level expert committee to separate the seven colleges from Dhaka University and outline the institutional structure of independent universities for the colleges. However, I think giving a long time of 4 months is too much.”

Abdur Rahman said, “The expert committee must publish the notification to establish an autonomous university comprising seven colleges within 30 working days, i.e. 1 month, before the nation. In addition, the admission test of the seven colleges in the 2024-25 session cannot be conducted while being affiliated to Dhaka University.” He said, “Except for the admission test of the 2024-25 session in the autonomous university, students of the seven colleges will not be allowed to take the admission test in any new session while affiliated to Dhaka University. If the expert committee that has now been formed has the good intention, it is possible to present the outline of a new university to the nation within the next month and plan to conduct the admission test for the 2024-25 session.”
