Bangladesh logs first hMPV death

Online Desk  :   The 30-year-old woman, who had been found infected with the Human Metapneumovirus (hMPV), died while undergoing treatment on Wednesday evening. The hMPV victim Sanjida Akter is the first Bangladeshi who infected with the virus and died. She died of hMPV around 7:00 pm at Infectious Diseases Hospital in the capital.

The Directorate General of Health Services confirmed the death. Hospital sources said Sanjida Akter had some other physical complexities alongside hMPV. Sanjida was identified with hMPV infection on January 9 and had been undergoing treatment at Infectious Diseases Hospital since. According to the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR), two persons with hMPV infection were identified in Bangladesh last year. However, the first such case was identified in the country in 2017.
