Online Desk : Maj Gen (retd) KM Shafiullah, former chief of the Bangladesh Army and a valiant freedom fighter, passed away on Sunday morning at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in the capital. Shafiullah had been admitted to CMH on June 10 as he was suffering from multiple health issues, including diabetes, hypertension, fatty liver, and dementia.
During the Liberation War, he initially served as the commander of Sector 3 before being appointed one of three brigade commanders, leading the ‘S-Force’—named after his surname. In recognition of his outstanding contribution to the Liberation War, he was honored with the prestigious title of Bir Uttam. KM Shafiullah served as the chief of Army Staff of the Bangladesh Army from 1972 to 1975. He also served as a Bangladeshi ambassador to different countries, including Malaysia, Canada, Sweden, and England.
