Online Desk  :  Home Affairs Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said that 700 prisoners, who escaped from prisons across the country during the July-August mass uprising, are still absconding. “About 700 have been fled from the prisons. They have not been caught yet. And those, who were in jails, are being kept in prison,” the home adviser came up with the information while responding to the newsmen at Keraniganj Central Jail on Sunday.

While asking about mugging, extortion, Jahangir Alam said, “I do not deny that mugging and extortion incidents are happening. However, those who are doing these things, are also being caught. And it is true that those who are getting released, are also doing such things. We are trying to reduce robbery and extortion in any way.”

“There is enough police personnel in the country but they are not working with interest like previous. We are trying to inspire them.” Responding to a question about top listed criminals, who are now on bail, adviser Jahangir Alam said, “They will be brought under trial very soon.”
