No decisions against Shariah, agree BNP, Islami Andolan

Online Desk  :  The BNP and Islami Andolan Bangladesh (IAB) have reached a consensus on a 10-point agenda, which includes a commitment to making no decisions against Islamic Shariah and holding a credible national election after completing essential “minimum” reforms. The agreement was finalised during a nearly two-hour meeting on Monday between BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and IAB Ameer Syed Md Rezaul Karim at the IAB’s central office in Purana Paltan, Dhaka. Following the meeting, Mirza Fakhrul announced the decisions to journalists, emphasizing the importance of national unity in achieving their shared objectives. Fakhrul was accompanied by BNP Vice Chairman Barkat Ullah Bulu, while IAB representatives included Senior Presidium Member Principal Syed Mosaddek Billah Al Madani, Secretary General Principal Maulana Yunus Ahmad, and other senior leaders. This meeting follows an earlier discussion on January 21 between Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Dr Shafiqur Rahman and IAB Ameer Syed Md Rezaul Karim at the Charmonai Darbar Sharif in Barishal.

Key points of agreement :

National unity against hegemony: Build a united front to create an independent, sovereign, and sustainable state free from hegemony, expansionism, and imperialism. Swift justice for wrongdoers: Bring corrupt individuals, terrorists, murderers, and money launderers to justice with exemplary punishment. Protect human rights: Forge national consensus to safeguard all human rights, including the right to vote. Credible ewlections: Complete necessary reforms and arrange fair, acceptable elections as soon as possible. Address public concerns: Stabilise commodity prices, uphold the rights of the underprivileged, and normalize the law-and-order situation. Joint reconstruction efforts: Work together to rebuild the nation and resist “Awami fascism.” Mutual respect among allies: Avoid making negative remarks about fellow anti-fascist forces. Prevent Future Fascism: Ensure no authoritarian regime like the Awami League gains power again. Adherence to Shariah: Commit to making no decisions or statements against Islamic Shariah and Islam. Reform Administration: Swiftly remove current supporters of the Awami League from administrative positions.
