Online Desk : Election Commissioner Md Anwarul Islam Sarker said that the Election Commission (EC) is preparing to hold the national election by December. Mentioning that the election schedule will be announced within the logical time, Anwarul Islam said the election commission is trying to announce a schedule centring December. All preparations must be completed by July-August to hold the elections in December. He made the remarks on Sunday. Anwarul Islam said that the commission will not act under anyone’s directives. The election commission is independent. It will not consider anyone’s advantages or disadvantages. The Election Commission will not bow to any pressure.
About the local government elections, the commissioner said, “It is not yet clear whether the commission’s proposal to hold the vote by June will be implemented. Amending the relevant law will take time. If a consensus is reached, preparations will also take time.” Regarding party registration, he said that if there is a consensus on the commission’s proposed reforms, the commission will proceed with the work. A law must exist for party registration, and some additions and omissions may be made.
While speaking about the deceased voters, Anwarul Islam said that a significant number of deceased voters are being removed. He also mentioned that nearly 400 applications have been submitted to demarcate parliamentary constituencies. The Election Commission thinks that there is a need to rearrange the constituencies, he added.
