Online Desk  :   Biplob Kumar Sarker, former Joint Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), and SM Mehedi Hasan, Joint Commissioner, have been temporarily suspended. A separate notification issued by the Police-1 branch of the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Public Security Division announced the suspension of the two senior police officers on Sunday. The notification was signed by Senior Secretary Nasimul Gani.

The notification states that Biplob Kumar Sarker, former Joint Commissioner of DMP (Admin and Detective-South), and SM Mehedi Hasan, Joint Commissioner of DMP Traffic (South), have been absent from their posts without permission, either orally or in writing, since August 6 of the previous year. They did not inform the appropriate authorities or obtain the necessary permission for their absence. As a result, Biplob and Mehedi have been temporarily suspended from their government jobs under Rule 2(c) of the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018, effective from August 6, 2024.

During their suspension, Biplob will be attached to the office of the DIG of the Barishal Range, and Mehedi will be attached to the office of the DIG of the Sylhet Range. The notification also states that they will be entitled to a subsistence allowance as per the rules during this period.
