Online Desk  :   Bangladesh’s educational institutions are gearing up for a massive 38-day holiday, spanning the holy month of Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr, starting March 2 and ending April 7. Classes will resume on April 8, as outlined in the Ministry of Education’s 2025 academic calendar, released December 23 last year. This extended break bundles Ramadan, Dol Yatra, Independence and National Day, Jumatul Bida, Shab-e-Qadr, and Eid-ul-Fitr into one long respite.

Across the country, schools and colleges, including in Dhaka, have posted notices since Monday, confirming the holiday begins March 2. With Friday and Saturday (March 28 and March 1) already weekly off-days, institutions have scheduled classes for Thursday, February 27, as the final session before the break. But not everyone’s cheering. The Guardian Unity Forum, led by President Ziaul Kabir Dulu and General Secretary Selim Mia, urged the Education Ministry Monday to keep classes running until at least the 20th of Ramadan.

Submitting a memorandum to Director General of Secondary and Higher Education Professor Dr Azad Khan Dulu argued, “Students haven’t received all their books, and they’ve missed two months of studies. With SSC exams looming after this holiday, we demand online classes to keep them on track.”  The directorate’s Secondary Education Director Professor Dr Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel acknowledged the calendar’s annual tradition but noted delays in book distribution. “This long holiday is standard, but if higher authorities decide otherwise, we’ll act,” he told Jago News.
