Online Desk : BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed said if the roadmap for the national elections is not given within a month, the political forces will discuss the matter and take the next decision. He made this statement at a discussion titled ‘Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman’s Sacrifice and Leadership in the Struggle for the Restoration of Democracy’ and the book cover unveiling ceremony of ‘Respected Leader Khaleda Zia’ at the Institution of Engineers Bangladesh (IEB) auditorium in the capital on Saturday afternoon.
Salahuddin Ahmed said, “The interim government is talking about holding elections in a haphazard manner. The chief advisor talked about elections in a press conference abroad. If there is a good intention, then hold a press conference in the country and give the roadmap for the elections. You will have to give the roadmap for the elections very soon. If you do not give it within a month, the political forces will discuss the matter and take the next decision.” He said, “Constituent Assembly elections are not held in a sovereign independent state. Those who are bringing up the issue of the Constituent Assembly, bringing up the issue of the Second Republic – either they do not understand, or they are knowingly conspiring to prolong the democratic process.” To those who are talking about local government elections, Salahuddin said, “Was it done on August 5 to just elect members chairman? These claimants are basically a group that wants to prolong the democratic process.”
He said, “After this mass uprising, the Awami League will never be able to return to healthy politics. If the party gets a chance to enter politics again, it will be our political failure.”
