Online Desk : Asif Nazrul, a member of the Advisory Committee on National Awards and the Law Affairs Adviser, said on Sunday that this year’s Independence Award will be presented to deserving individuals, transcending party and group affiliations. The Law Affairs Adviser shared this information with reporters following a meeting of the Advisory Committee on National Awards. He also mentioned that fewer than 10 individuals would receive the award this year.
Asif Nazrul noted that in the past, several controversial individuals and organizations had received national awards, citing the example of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) being awarded the Independence Award. He emphasized that this is the highest national honour in the country. He further explained, “Recognizing the significance of this award and under the leadership of Sir (Wahiduddin Mahmud), we have recommended names that go beyond party and group interests. Just as you were pleased with the Ekushey Padak, you will be even more pleased with this award. It will make you feel that we are fortunate to be giving this award.”
