Online Desk  :  Three individuals have been detained in connection with an attempted looting incident at a residence in Dhakas Gulshan area on Tuesday night, according to a statement from the Chief Advisers press wing. The detainees have been identified as Jewel Khandarkar, 48, his son Shakil Khandakar, 24, and another individual named Shakil Ahmed, 28. A group of 20 to 25 people stormed the home of the ex-wife of Tanvir Imam, son of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasinas political adviser HT Imam. The intruders allegedly acted on a rumor that large amounts of illegal money, weapons, and political collaborators of the Awami League were inside the house.

According to the statement, the group vandalized the property and attempted to seize valuables under the pretense of conducting a search. Upon receiving an emergency call via the national 999 helpline, law enforcement, including army personnel, the deputy commissioner of Gulshan Zone police, and the officer-in-charge of Gulshan police station, arrived at the scene and detained the three suspects. Preliminary investigations suggest that Shakil Ahmed, a former caretaker of the residence, incited the group by spreading false claims that the house contained Tk 200-300 crore.

This was the second such attempt, as another group had tried to enter the premises on Monday night around 10:30 PM but was turned away by police. The Ministry of Home Affairs has urged the public not to take the law into their own hands and to report any criminal activity to the nearest police station. The government remains committed to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of lives and property.
