Online Desk  :   A work stoppage, called in protest of the assault on four employees of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) by several members of the MRT police, was lifted on Monday. After receiving assurances from the authorities, metro rail staff resumed work. Consequently, ticket sales for single journeys on the metro rail resumed after nearly an hour and a half. There had been concerns about the suspension of metro rail services in the morning due to the work stoppage, but the metro rail operated as scheduled, although most employees did not join work.

Meanwhile, the absence of most staff led to the suspension of single journey ticket sales. As a result, passengers without tickets were able to travel for free, while those with MRT cards could enter by tapping their cards. Nasir Uddin Ahmed, Director of Operations and Maintenance at DMTCL, told Jago News that the protest had been called off. He added that measures would be taken swiftly to address the staff’s demands. The metro rail staff has now returned to work, and single journey ticket sales have resumed as usual.
