Online Desk : Hamza Dewan Choudhury, one of Bangladesh’s most celebrated sporting figures, arrived at Osmani International Airport in Sylhet today, accompanied by his family. The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) welcomed the Sheffield United midfielder with a floral bouquet upon his arrival. He was joined by his mother, Rafia Dewan Choudhury, his wife, Olivia Choudhury, their three children, his two brothers, a physiotherapist, and an official. His father, Dewan Murshid Choudhury, arrived in Bangladesh three weeks ago to oversee preparations for his son’s homecoming. A large number of local football fans gathered outside the airport, eager to catch a glimpse of Hamza and extend their support.
Before embarking on his journey to Bangladesh, Hamza played in the Sheffield Derby against Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday evening, helping Sheffield United secure a 1-0 victory. He played the full 90 minutes, with Rhian Brewster scoring the decisive goal. From the airport, Hamza and his entourage are set to travel to his ancestral village of Snanghat in Bahubal, Habiganj, where he will spend time with his family. On Tuesday, he will fly to Dhaka to join the Bangladesh national team at their team hotel. The squad, currently training in Taif, Saudi Arabia, is scheduled to arrive in the capital on the same day.
Hamza will officially meet the media at a press conference on Wednesday following a team photo session. Later that day, he is expected to participate in a training session under head coach Javier Cabrera. The 27-year-old midfielder is set to make his much-anticipated debut for Bangladesh in the crucial first-leg match of the AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers Final Round against India on March 25 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong. Hamza is currently playing for EFL Championship side Sheffield United on loan from Premier League club Leicester City. His loan contract expires on May 21, after which he is expected to return to Leicester.
