Online Desk  :  Bangladesh Railway has concluded the sale of advance tickets for intercity trains ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr. The sale of tickets for return journeys after Eid has now started. The sale of return journey advance tickets started on Monday at 8 am. All advance tickets are being sold exclusively online. For the convenience of passengers, Bangladesh Railway has decided to issue tickets for western region trains at 8 AM and for eastern region trains at 2 pm.

Accordingly, tickets for these two regions will be sold at these designated times. Those purchasing tickets today will be able to travel on April 3. Earlier, on March 9, a notice signed by Rezaul Karim Siddique, the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Railways, provided information about the advance ticket sales. Additionally, tickets for March 31, April 1, and April 2 will be sold depending on the sighting of the moon. All tickets for Eid travel must be purchased online. In previous years, Bangladesh Railway used to run 8 to 10 special trains for Eid travel, but this year, the number has been reduced to 5 pairs of special trains.

According to the decision of Bangladesh Railway, the following special trains will operate:

  • Two pairs of trains named “Chandpur Eid Special 1 and 2” on the Chittagong-Chandpur-Chittagong route.
  • One pair of trains named “Dewanganj Eid Special 3 and 4” on the Dhaka-Dewanganj-Dhaka route.
  • One pair of trains named “Sholakia Eid Special 5 and 6” on the Bhairab-Kishoreganj-Bhairab route.
  • One pair of trains named “Sholakia Eid Special 7 and 8” on the Mymensingh-Kishoreganj-Mymensingh route.
  • One pair of trains named “Parbatipur Eid Special 9 and 10” on the Joydevpur-Parbatipur-Joydevpur route.

Furthermore, to meet the increased demand, 44 additional passenger coaches will be added to the service (28 meter gauge coaches from the Pahartali workshop and 36 broad gauge coaches from the Syedpur workshop). Additionally, 19 locomotives (14 meter gauge and 5 broad gauge) will be used to operate passenger trains.

All weekly day-offs (scheduled holidays) for intercity trains running on various routes across the country have been canceled. From March 27 until the day before Eid, there will be no day-offs for these trains. After Eid, the weekly day-offs will resume. Moreover, no intercity trains will operate on Eid day.
