Online Desk  :   The signing of a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) between Bangladesh and Australia marks a significant step in preventing unlawful migration and human trafficking while enhancing bilateral cooperation, said Home Adviser Lieutenant General Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) on Monday. Speaking at the signing ceremony at the Home Ministry, he emphasized that illegal migration threatens global security and endangers lives, making such agreements crucial for ensuring safe and regulated migration pathways.

Inspector General of Police Baharul Alam and Australian Border Force Commander Mark Whitechurch signed the SOP on behalf of their respective nations. The Bangladeshi government remains committed to eliminating human trafficking through strict enforcement and preventive measures, the adviser stated. He also praised Australia’s decision to process visa applications in Dhaka, which will significantly reduce delays for Bangladeshi applicants.

“This agreement reflects our shared vision of security, prosperity, and human dignity. We must continue working together to make migration safe, legal, and beneficial for all,” he added.  Among those present at the event were Home Secretary Nasimul Ghani and Australian High Commissioner Susan Ryle.
