Online Desk  :   The court has annulled the results of the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) election held on February 1, 2020. At the same time, the verdict was delivered declaring BNP party candidate Ishraque Hossain as the mayor. On Thursday afternoon, Dhaka’s First Joint District Judge and Election Tribunal Judge Md. Nurul Islam delivered the verdict. The order cancelled the government’s gazette for former DSCC mayor Sheikh Fazle Nur Taposh as the mayor with the boat symbol. The candidate with the paddy sheaf symbol was declared as the mayor.

Ishraque Hossain was present in the court when the verdict was announced. Ishraque Hossain said to the journalists present in the court premises, “We have got justice, this is the main victory. Whether I can become mayor or take the oath or not depends on party decision.” He also said, “Let justice return to Bangladesh. The trend of justice that the common people get after the fall of the fascist Hasina government is starting or has started. Let this trend continue. Our main objective is to establish justice at all levels in Bangladesh.” Mayoral candidate Ishraque Hossain filed a case on March 3, 2020, seeking the cancellation of the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) elections and results on charges of irregularities, corruption and unacceptability.
