Online Desk : A Dhaka court has granted a one-day remand for two employees of “Apon Coffee House” at Khilgaon area in the capital in connection with physical assault of a young woman. Metropolitan Magistrate Md Rakibul Hasan passed the order on Tuesday (April 15) after hearing arguments from both the prosecution and defense. The accused are cafe manager Al Amin and a staff Shuvo Sutradhar. Investigating officer, sub-inspector Md Mohsin from Rampura Police Station, sought a five-day remand for further interrogation. Defense lawyers opposed the plea and sought bail, but the court granted a one-day remand instead.
According to police, the incident took place on April 11 in front of the café at Taltola area of Khilgaon, where the two accused allegedly harassed and beat the woman with a stick. A 90-second video of assault went viral on social media, drawing public outrage. The case was filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act and Section 323 of the Penal Code. Sub-inspector Zahidul Islam from the court’s prosecution unit confirmed the remand order.
Initial investigation revealed that the accused misbehaved with the woman and touched her inappropriately. When she resisted and tried to leave, they beat her and drove her away. Police detained the suspects on Monday following the viral video and formally arrested them on Tuesday.
