Speaking virtually from Thailand; where he recently underwent eye surgery, Fakhrul addressed a joint meeting of BNP and its affiliated organizations, expressing alarm over what he sees as coordinated efforts to delay the election process and restrict fundamental rights. “In exchange for blood and sacrifices of thousands of students and mass people, a new opportunity has emerged for genuine democracy and a fascism-free, modern Bangladesh. But now, a dark cloud looms over that hope,” he said.
Fakhrul alleged that certain infiltrators within the government are orchestrating a plot to mislead the nation and divert it from its democratic course. “You must have noticed the return of divisive politics,” he noted, warning of efforts to sow discord among public and create friction between state institutions. In light of these developments, Fakhrul called on all BNP leaders and activists to remain vigilant and united in face of any conspiracies. “Every BNP leader and worker must be alert, aware and ready to confront these threats,” he urged.
He emphasized that BNP has a critical responsibility to restore democracy, rebuild the nation and fulfil people’s aspirations. “I ask all BNP members to keep this in mind; no one should be allowed to harm Bangladesh’s independence and sovereignty or to crush democracy under autocracy and fascism,” Fakhrul stated. The meeting took place at BNP Chairperson’s political office in Gulshan and was attended by senior leaders from the party’s various affiliated wings.
