Online Desk : Around 30,000 residents from 25 villages in Madaripur observed Eid-ul-Azha on Friday, aligning with the celebrations in Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern countries. The largest Eid congregation in the district was held at the Talluk Government Primary School field in Sadar Upazila. The prayer began at 9:30 AM and was led by Maulana Siddiqur Rahman, imam of the local mosque.
This early observance follows a long-standing tradition led by followers of Hazrat Jan Sharif Shah Sureshwari (Rah.), founder of the Sureshwar Darbar Sharif. For over 150 years, this community has been marking Ramadan and both Eid festivals according to moon sightings in Saudi Arabia.
Villages participating in the celebration included Charkalikapur, Mohisherchar, Panchkhola, Jajira, Katla Baherchar, Talluk, Chargobindapur, Pokhira, Khwajpur, Daulatpur, Kalikapur, Hosnabad, Raghurampur, Angulkata, Hajambari, Baherchar, Keranirbari, Ramjanpur, Koiria, Ramarpul, Saheberampur, Andarchar, and Khaserhat. “This tradition has been ongoing for nearly a century and a half,” said Md. Iqbal Sardar, a devotee of the Sureshwar Darbar. “We celebrate both Eids each year in harmony with Saudi Arabia,” he added.
