Online Desk  :   Government employees continued their protest at the Secretariat on Tuesday (17 June), demanding the repeal of the Public Service (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025. The employees gathered at Badamtola in front of Building 6 of the Secretariat around 11 am and began a protest rally. They later marched to the new building of the Cabinet Division, where they held a protest gathering. The demonstration is being led by the Bangladesh Secretariat Officers and Employees Unity Forum, an alliance of various associations of Secretariat officials and employees. Forum Co-Chairmen Md Badiul Kabir and Md Nurul Islam, Co-Secretary General Md Nazrul Islam, along with other leaders, were present at the rally.

After the Eid holidays, the employees resumed their movement on Monday (16 June) with protest marches and rallies inside the Secretariat. Employee leader Nazrul Islam said, “We’ve heard that a committee led by the law adviser will recommend amendments to the ordinance, but we will not accept it.” Another leader, Mujahidul Islam Selim, said, “We’re still being patient, but if we’re forced, there will be consequences.” On 25 May, the Public Service (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025 was issued, allowing the dismissal of employees for four types of misconduct through a show-cause notice without departmental proceedings.

Earlier, on 22 May, the draft of the ordinance was approved at a meeting of the Advisory Council. Since 24 May, officials and employees have been jointly protesting at the Secretariat, demanding the withdrawal of the ordinance, which they have termed repressive and a “black law.”
