Online Desk : A Dhaka court on Thursday granted a five-day remand for Sumaiya Zafrin, wife of suspended Army officer Major Sadik, in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act with Vatara Police Station. Sumaiya was produced before the court by the investigation officer, who sought a seven-day remand for interrogation. Following hearings from both the prosecution and defence, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sefat Ullah rejected her bail plea and approved five-day remand prayer.
Earlier, detectives detained Sumaiya and showed her arrested in a case linked to an alleged guerrilla training operation involving banned leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliates. The case stems from a secret meeting held near Bashundhara Residential Area, where 22 individuals were arrested by Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). Authorities claim the meeting involved members of banned factions of the Awami League, Chhatra League, and allied organizations. The case is being investigated by the Detective Branch (DB) of police.
On August 1, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed that Major Sadik had been detained on July 17 from his Uttara residence and was placed under military custody. A court of inquiry has been formed, and initial findings reportedly support the allegations. Final disciplinary action will be taken under military law upon completion of the investigation, in coordination with law enforcement agencies.
