Online Desk: After his latest film, “Selfiee” opened to poor box-office numbers, Akshay Kumar shared his thoughts on why the film failed. Akshay said that when consecutive films fail commercially, it it usually the right time to reflect on his decisions. The actor also noted that this wasn’t the first time his films had failed and acknowledged that he wanted to take responsibility for the film’s failure at the box-office. The last film starring Akshay Kumar, which succeeded at the box office was “Sooryavanshi”—which was released in 2021 and starred Akshay opposite Katrina Kaif. The film also featured cameo appearances from Ranveer Singh and Ajay Devgn.
Talking about his three-four flops in a row, Akshay told the media, “This is not happening with me for the first time. In my career, I have had 16 consecutive flops at a time. There was a time when I had eight films in a row that did not work. Now, I have had three-four films in a row that did not work. The thing is that it is your own fault. The audience have changed, you need to change, you need to dismantle yourself. You have to start again because the audience require to see something else.”
The “Bhool Bhulaiyaa” star also added, “It is a great reminder. If your films are not working, it is your fault. When your films flop in a row, it is a warning for you that it is time to change. I am trying to change, that is all I can do.”He also stated that the audience should not be blamed for a film’s failure. According to the actor, a film usually fails because it had the ‘wrong ingredients’—which is a decision usually made by the creators.
Akshay’s films in 2022 failed to record huge numbers. Last year’s “Raksha Bandhan” and “Samrat Prithviraj” failed at the box office. His latest outing, “Selfiee”, which was released on February 24, made a disappointing opening collection amount below Rs 3 crore on the first day.
