Online Desk: A large ship carrying the last consignment of Dhaka Metro Rail has anchored at Mongla Port. Panama flag carrier MV Venus Trump, carrying four railway coaches and two engines, anchored at Jetty Number 8 of Mongla Port at about 4:00pm on Sunday (March 12, 2023) from Kobe Port in Japan.
MV Venus Triumph’s local shipping agent Ancient Steam Ship Company’s manager Md Wahiduzzaman said the ship left Japan’s Kobe Port for Mongla Port in Bangladesh on February 18 last with four railway coaches and two engines on board. There are coaches and engines along with other equipment weighing 356.861 metric tonnes on board the ship. After unloading, the coaches, engines and equipment will be sent by waterways to Dhaka on literage ships. Then these will be taken to Metro Rail’s depot at Diabari in Uttara.
Md Wahiduzzaman firther said the Metro Rail’s 144 coaches and two engines in 24 sets have arrived so far at Mongla Port by 15 ships from Kobe Port. Of the 144 coaches and engines, the number of coaches are 96 and engines are 48.
The first consignment of Metro Rail arrived at Mongla Port on March 28 last year. Six railway coaches arrived in the first consignment. With the arrival of four more coaches and two engines on Sunday, the last consignment of Metro Rail’s goods and equipment has come in Bangladesh. All the coaches, engines and equipment of Metro Rail imported at Mongla Port and unloaded and transported from there.
