Online Desk: Voting in Tangail municipality and two union parishads as well as Cumilla’s Lalmai upazila parishad is underway from 8am on Thursday through EVM. Elections in Tangail’s Elenga and two union parishads started under tight security through EVMs from 8:30am on Thursday and will continue till 4:30pm.

According to the district election office sources, in Tangail’s Elenga municipal election, three candidates are contesting for the post of mayor, 34 candidates for councillor and 14 candidates for the post of reserved councillor and 12 candidates for the post of chairman in two UPs.

A total of 35,554 voters in Elenga are expected to cast their votes. Additional number of law enforcement agencies including four platoons of BGB are performing duty in the elections along with three judicial magistrates and 15 executive magistrates.

In Cumilla, a total of 12 candidates are contesting in the upazila. Among them, there are three candidates for the post of chairman, five candidates for the post of male vice-chairman and four candidates for the post of female vice-chairman. EVM machines are being used at the upazila’s 57 polling stations. The total number of voters in this upazila is 1,57,217.
