Online Desk: A person was killed and six others injured as a fire broke out after an explosion at a two-storey building in Nitaiganj area of Narayanganj on Saturday morning. The deceased was identified as Md Awlad Hosen, 40. The injured are—Md Hossain,50, Md Hazrat Ali, 40, Robi Datta, 42, Md Zakir Hosen, 41, Md Billal, 45, Jagadis Sarkar, 65, Nahid, Sentu and Rajon. All are day labourer.
Among the injured Jagadis Sarkar was admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery and others were at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Deputy Assistant Director of Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defence said the two-story building caught fire around 9 am following an explosion. It collapsed partially due to the blast.
On information, six firefighting units rushed to the spot and were trying to bring the blaze under control, he said, adding the reason behind the explosion could not be ascertained immediately. Local sources said the ground floor was being used as warehouses to store daily essentials and paper rolls. The top floor of the building was declared abandoned ten years ago.
