Strike at Chattogram oxygen plants withdrawn

Online Desk: Owners of all oxygen plants in Chattogram have withdrawn their work abstention after a meeting with the deputy commissioner and industrial police. Leaders of Bangladesh Ship Breakers Association (BSBA) took the withdrawal decision on Friday night getting assurance from the administration. Nazmul islam, secretary of the BSBA, said, “The administration expressed regret for the incident. They assured that nothing like this will happen in future.” For this, we withdrew our strike.”

Earlier on Friday, all oxygen plants have been closed for Friday in protest against producing arrested Seema Oxygen Plant’s managing director Md Parvez Uddin Santu at court by tying a rope around his waist. The BSBA also cancelled their human chain programme at Jatiya Press Club scheduled for Saturday (March 18).  Strike at Chattogram oxygen plants withdrawn

Owners of all the oxygen plants in Chattogram announced to observe the shutdown on Friday protesting the harassment of Santu by police. Earlier, on March 4, a massive cylinder explosion and a fire at Seema Oxygen Plant in Kadam Rasul area of Bhatiari union of Sitakunda left seven people dead and 30 others wounded.

Rokeya Begum, the wife of Abdul Quader who died in the explosion, filed a case against 16 people including three brothers who own the oxygen plant. Police, later, arrested Santu following the case and he was placed on a one-day remand by a Chattogram court on Wednesday (March 15).
