Online Desk: The second ODI of the three-match series between Bangladesh and Ireland has been washed out after rain interrupted play following the conclusion of the first innings where the Tigers posted their highest-ever ODI total of 349 for six at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

There was a forecast for rain during the match and a heavy downpour disallowed any kind of action to take place in the second innings. The cut-off time was determined to be at 10:57 pm, with play scheduled to resume by 9:33 pm but the match officials, considering the state of the field as a result of the incessant rain, decided to call proceedings off ahead of 9:33 pm. Despite the match ending in a no-result, according to ICC’s rules and regulations (ICC Men’s Standard ODI Playing Conditions – November 2022), the records made will stand and will be taken into account.

Earlier, Mushfiqur Rahim smashed the fastest ODI century by a Bangladesh batter beating Shakib Al Hasan’s 63-ball century against Zimbabwe in 2009 and Najmul Hossain Shanto notched up his third ODI fifty to help Bangladesh break their previous best score of 338 which they posted on Saturday. Mushfiqur, who reached his hundred in 60 balls, smashed 14 fours and two sixes for his unbeaten 100 and put together a 128–run stand with Hridoy.

Hridoy missed out on registering consecutive fifties as he was castled by Mark Adair when he was on 49 runs off 34 deliveries. Shanto hit three fours and two sixes for his 77-ball 73 before he nicked one down the leg side off the bowling off of Graham Hume. Bangladesh lead the three-match series 1-0
