Online Desk: Metro rail authorities are scheduled to open the Uttara South and Shewrapara stations on Friday. With the opening of these two, all nine stations from Uttara to Agargaon will come into operation, according to an office order of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd.
DMTCL, which operates the metro rail services, has formed two teams to coordinate with the operation teams of the Uttara South and Sewrapara stations, reads the office order issued today. MAN Siddique, managing director of DMTCL, could not be reached for comment.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the country’s first metro rail partially on December 28 and the service was opened to public the following day. At first, metro trains were operated between Uttara and Agargaon without any stoppages. The authorities opened five other stations gradually.
Currently, the metro rail is being operated from 8:30am to 12:30pm. The authorities earlier said they would start increasing the duration of the train operation after opening all nine stations. They will go for full-fledged (morning to midnight) operation from July.
