Online Desk: Prothom Alo journalist Shamsuzzaman Shams again sought bail in Dhaka CMM court in a case filed under Digital Security Act (DSA).
Earlier on Sunday (April 2), Prothom Alo editor and publisher Matiur Rahman granted six weeks’ anticipatory bail by the High Court in the same case. Following that, Advocate Prashanta Kumar Karmakar, a counsel for Matiur Rahman, sought bail for Shamsuzzaman today.
Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzel Hossain sent Shamsuzzaman, Savar Correspondent of the Daily Prothom Alo, to jail on March 30 in the DSA case.
Lawyer Abdul Malek (Mashiur Malek) lodged the case early hours of March 30 accusing the newspaper’s editor Matiur Rahman, reporter Shamsuzzaman Shams, an unnamed ‘assistant cameraman’, and unnamed others of “using print, online, and electronic media to tarnish the image and reputation of the state”.
