Online Desk: At least Eight firefighters were injured after a mob attacked the Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters, which is located close to the Bangabazar Shopping Complex, where a fire continues to rage five hours after breaking out.
Two of them firefighters — Rabiul Islam and Atikur Rahman — were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said Rashed-Bin-Khaled, duty officer of the fire service. He said the attackers also vandalised several vehicles parked inside the headquarters.
Witnesses said a group of people including some shopkeepers, being frustrated by the fire still burning, attacked the fire service headquarters around 9:30am. They threw bricks chunks, leaving at least four firefighters injured, they said.
Forty-eight firefighting units are trying to douse the file that originated around 6:10am and spread to nearby markets too. Meanwhile, another firefighter Mehedi Hasan fell sick after inhaling smoke during fighting the blaze, fire officials said.
