Online Desk: Three Walton high-tech factory workers died and another fell sick after taking iftar inside factory in Gazipur’s Kaliakair upazila on Sunday. The deceased were identified as Ashraf Ali, 30, Abdul Barek Bari, 30, and Farid Mia, 29.

Al-Amin, 30, an operator, who fell sick after taking iftar,  is undergoing treatment at Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Memorial KPJ Specialized Hospital. Following the death of their fellows, angry workers of the factory blocked the Chandra-Nabinagar highway by burning tires. The hospital sources said three workers were taken to the hospital quickly where the on-duty doctors declared them dead.

According to a press release signed by Humayun Kabir, deputy managing director of Walton Hi-Tech Industry,
Like other days, the factory arranged iftar for 13,000 workers, it was learnt. Five workers brought soft drinks from outside for iftar. Of them, four fell sick after taking it.

Walton has declared compensation and other financial assistance for the families of victims according to the company policy. A committee has been formed to probe into the incident.
