Online Desk: BNP has once again made its position clear that it is not participating in the upcoming five city elections. “In the city polls, be it mayor or councillor, there will be no representation from the party. We will not join any local government elections,” said BNP’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
The BNP leader came up with the remarks when journalists, referring to media report, said that BNP candidates were joining the polls as independent candidates. Fakhrul along with the newly elected Swechchhasebak Dal leaders placed floral wreath at the party founder Ziaur Rahman’s grave.
After placing the wreath, Fakhrul said Awami League does not believe in election and democracy. It wants to establish a one-party ruling in the country, destroying democracy. “To achieve this, they (AL) held a farcical election in 2014 and cast votes at night before the election day in 2018.”
Giving example of the recently held Chattogram-8 by polls, the BNP leader said people are not participating in the local government elections.
