Online Desk: Ganatantra Mancha, a seven-party political alliance, got split on Saturday after Gana Odhikar Parishad led by economist Dr Reza Kibria and Nurul Huq Nur decided to leave it. Gana Odhikar Parishad took the decision at a meeting of its central committee which was held at the party office in the evening, said member-secretary Nurul Huq Nur.
Nur, also the former Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) vice-president, said the Gana Odhikar Parishad would conduct its party activities alone from now on. Besides, they would take part in anti-government movement unilaterally. Moreover, they would remain active in the united movement on their own.
A strained relationship has been going on between Gana Odhikar Parishad and Ganatantra Mancha over making statements in different programmes and taking decisions on various issues.
Earlier on August 8, 2022, anti-government political alliance Ganatantra Mancha, comprising Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD), Nagorik Oikya, Biplobi Workers Party, Ganasanghati Andolon, Gana Odhikar Parishad, Bhasani Onusari Parishad and Rastra Sangskar Andolon, was floated.
Meanwhile, Ganatantra Mancha is scheduled to hold a meeting on Sunday (May 7, 2023) where Gana Odhikar Parishad’s anti-alliance decision would be discussed, said the Mancha leaders.
