Online Desk: Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) on Tuesday included 37 new products under the mandatory quality certificate.
The products include sweetmeat, pressure cooker, LPG gas cylinder, microwave oven, bitumen and bituminous binder-polymer modified bitumen and UPS.
BSTI took the decision at 38th council meeting at BSTI office in city’s Tejgaon with Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun in the chair.
Among others, State Minister for Industries Kamal Ahmed Mojumder, Industries Secretary Zakia Sultana and Director General of BSTI Md Abdus Sattar were present at the meeting. The number of products that come under the BSTI’s compulsory certification requirement rises to 239. In the meeting, Industries Minister said, “BSTI has created a place of trust for all. It should play more active role in product quality control.”
Urging the BSTI to play a stricter role if necessary to protect the interests of the people, the State Minister for Industries said that traders are adulterating and syndicating the products. BSTI has to take responsibility to protect the consumers’ interest, he added.
