The Daily Morning Voice Online Desk:  The salvage operation of Sagar Nandini-2, the ship that sank with 11 lakh litres of fuel oil in the Meghna river in Bhola, has started. Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) Joint Director Abdus Salam confirmed the information.

He told today that oil would be extracted from the ship first and sand would be removed. Two divers have started the operation since morning. After this is completed, the rest of the work will be done with two separate ships, he said. Meanwhile, local fishermen said oil was seen in the river for the last two days, but no oil was seen today. Sagar Nandini-2 sank after colliding with another ship at Tulatuli in Bhola Sadar around 4:00am on Sunday. The oil on the ship spilled into the river. Later, with the efforts of the Coast Guard, it was possible to recover some of the oil.
