Online Desk: At least 50 students were injured in clashes between two factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) at Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU) that lasted from 8pm to 10pm on Saturday. Of the injured, 24 students were admitted to Dinajpu M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital till 2am on Sunday, while the rest injured received the first aid at 250-Bed General Hospital and the university’s treatment centre.
The proctor of the university, administration officers and teachers are staying at the university from the night after the incident. According to the campus sources, an altercation took place between two groups of BCL–Riad-Sajal and Akash–over a post on social media.
Following the altercation, two groups locked into clashes with lethal weapons and sticks. At least 50 students from both the groups were injured. The BCL also attack Zia Hall and vandalised there.
Additional superintendent of Dinajpur Sadar Circle Police Sheikh Mohammad Jinnah Al Mamun said, “Additional police have been deployed in and outside the campus.” Riad-Sajal and Akash groups have a long-standing feud over establishing supremacy, it was learnt.
