The Daily Morning Voice Online Desk: Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said his party was aware of Jatiya Party candidate’s precedence in public opinion in Rangpur City Corporation elections. “But we do not go there (Rangpur). We did not even fight in the election. We knew that Jatiya party candidate was ahead in the polls,” Quader said while talking to reporters at Secretariat today. “It is local election. Its not general election. Many things are considered in the local elections,” he said replying to a query over AL’s fourth position in the first election since he became AL general secretary third time in a row. “We were behind in the election race but we did not try hard to go forward,” he said adding, “We accepted the people’s verdict.”

In Tuesday’s polls, Jatiya Party candidate Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa scored a resounding victory and was re-elected as the mayor. AL candidate Hosne Ara Lutfa Dalia was in the fourth position while AL rebel Latifur Rahman Milan ended up with more votes than she. Quader said “We have some intra-party problems there [in Rangpur] …We are looking into those. We are going to take major organisational action in Rangpur within a week.” AL didn’t make any mistake in selecting candidate for the election, he added.
