Online Desk: Responding to BNP’s announcement of one-point demanding Sheikh Hasina-led government’s resignation, dissolve of parliament and restoration of caretaker government provision to the constitution, Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader has said, “No election without Sheikh Hasina will be allowed to take place in Bangladesh.” He stated it while speaking as the chief guest at a “peace rally” at the south gate of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque on Wednesday afternoon. Dhaka City North and South Awami League organised the rally.

Quader said: “Do you know anything about BNP? Do you know anything about their one-point? Their one-point demand is Sheikh Hasina’s resignation. But, we have also one-point demand. No election without Sheikh Hasina is Awami League’s only demand.” The ruling party’s general secretary said, “Sheikh Hasina will give us leadership. We can’t lose a leader who is loved by people. People like her honesty and her development programmes. She thinks of people remaining awake throughout night.”

“BNP knows they will lose if election takes place. They will be washed away by Sheikh Hasina’s popularity. Because of it, they don’t like Sheikh Hasina.” Alleging that the BNP did not want any development project in the country, Quader said, “Sheikh Hasina’s only crime is that she has implemented development programmes in the country.”

The Awami League general secretary alleged that BNP had tried their best. They tried to bring many people. Their dream of December died at Gopibagh’s cattle market. They are now dreaming another dream. But, their dream has got trapped at Nayapaltan’s mud-water. He said, “Our one-point is holding election according to the constitution. We’ll not obstruct anyone, we’ll not go to attack anyone.”

Referring to the Dhaka visit by the diplomats of different countries including the United States and European Union, Quader said, “The foreign friends who have come to Dhaka want free and fair election. Our objective is also a free and fair election. We will resist those who will try to obstruct our election. Game will continue until the election.”

Rejecting the possibily of a dialogue with BNP, Quader said, “We’ll not hold any dialogue with those whose hands carry blood stains. We’ll not hold any dialogue with those, we’ll not compromise with those. We can’t compromise with the spirit of 1971.”

The rally was also addressed by Awami League presidium members Matia Chowdhury, Dr Abdur Razzaque, Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, Quamrul Islam, Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Abdur Rahman, joint general secretaries Hasan Mahmud and Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, and organising secretary Ahmad Hossain, among others.

Earlier, Awami League’s peace rally began at 3:00pm. A large number of leaders and workers of the party joined the rally from different parts of Dhaka city and its adjoining areas.
