Online Desk: Leaders, activists and followers of the ruling Awami League have started gathering to join their ‘peace and development procession’. The first phase of the two-day rally is set to start at 4 pm today at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh. The programme will be held in response to the BNP’s ‘one-point’ movement demanding the government’s resignation.

AL leaders and activists started gathering in front of the venue at around 1:30 pm from different areas of Dhaka, ignoring the heat. Most of them were seen waiting in Ramna Park, taking refuge from the heat under shades of trees. Awami League leaders earlier said they will bring out processions to resist BNP’s “attempts to create an unstable situation.”

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader will deliver a speech as chief guest at the brief inauguration while the president of Dhaka South City Awami League will preside over the event. The procession will start outside the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh at 3 pm. Following that, the Dhaka South City unit of Awami League will march towards Road No. 32 in Dhanmondi. The rally will pass Shahbagh, Kataban, Science Laboratory, and Kalabagan to reach Dhanmondi 32.

On Wednesday, the rally will be held at Tejgaon’s Satrasta intersection, followed by a procession led by the Dhaka North City unit of Awami League to Mohakhali. The rally will pass Satrasta, Tibet, Nabisco, and Mohakhali Bus Terminal. The Dhaka District Awami League will hold the procession outside the metropolis on both days.
