Dengue cases record seven-fold jump by a month

Online Desk: The dengue cases recorded a seven-fold increase in July month in comparison to June, said Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Sunday.

In June, the number of dengue patients was 5,075 while the number of patients so far reached 38,429 in July, said director of DGHS (MIS) Prof Dr Md Shahadat Hossain at a virtual briefing in Dhaka. He said, “The number of dengue patients has recorded seven-fold increase in comparison to the last month. Of the total patients, 64% are men and 36% are women.”

Middle-aged people are the most affected of this dengue disease, said Shahadat Hossain. Of the total dengue patients, most of them admitted in Mugda Medical College Hospital, he said.

The DGHS official said the number of children being infected in Dhaka is high in comparison to other parts of the country, according to an analysis of data, he said.
