Online Desk: The High Court (HC) on Tuesday scrapped the decision to relieve Dhaka University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) president Prof Md Rahmat Ullah from all academic and administrative duties mentioning it illegal.
As per the court verdict, he will now take part in all the academic and administrative activities, said his lawyers. An HC bench of Justice Jafar Ahmed and Justice Md Bashir Ullah delivered the verdict.
Prof Rahmat Ullah has been relieved of all academic and administrative duties for paying tribute to Khandakar Mushtaq, one of the key patrons of the coup plotters who assassinated Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1975.
On April 20, lat year, a decision to relieve Prof Rahmat Ullah from academic activities was taken at a syndicate meeting. Later on June 8, 2022, a rule was issued following a writ against the decision. The HC announced the verdict today after hearing on the rule.
Prof Rahmat Ullah paid tribute to Khandakar Mushtaq alongwith other members of the provisional government at a discussion on the Historic Mujibnagar Day on April 17, last year, at the university’s TSC auditorium.
