Online Desk: Najmul Hossain Shanto has been ruled out from the Asia Cup after the left handed batter suffered a hamstring injury, confirmed Bangladesh Cricket Board through a press release on Tuesday. He will return home immediately to begin his rehabilitation after sustaining the injury. Shanto hurt himself during the last game against Afghanistan in Lahore and the cricketer was seen struggling and was later undergone an MRI. It came as a big blow for Bangladesh before starting their Super Four campaign.

“The player had complained of hamstring pain during batting and could not field. We had an MRI scan done confirming a muscle tear. As a precaution, Shanto will not take any further part in the tournament and will be returning home to start rehab and prepare for the World Cup,” said national Team Physio Bayjedul Islam Khan.

The 25 year old has been the leading run getter in the Asia Cup so far where he scored 89 runs in the first game against Sri Lanka and followed it up with a magnificent 104 run knock against Afghanistan that saw Bangladesh to reach the Super Four of the tournament.

Shanto along with Mehedi Hasan Miraz added a record 194 runs third wicket stand against Afghanistan where the Tigers posted a mammoth 334 for 5 and went on to win by 89 runs in the end.
