Online Desk: At least 12 Thais and 10 Nepalese have been killed in the conflict between Israel and Hamas militants, said embassy officials of the two nations on Monday. A spokesperson for Thailand’s foreign ministry Kanchana Patarachoke said the Thai embassy in Israel learned of the deaths from the victims’ employers.
She said a further eight Thais had been wounded and 11 taken captive since the war erupted when Hamas launched a large-scale attack on Saturday, AFP reports. In the meantime, a Nepal Embassy official told ANI late on Sunday evening that as many as 10 Nepal nationals were confirmed dead in the ongoing terrorist attack by Hamas terror group in Israel.
Talking over phone, Arjun Ghimire, First Secretary at the Nepali Embassy in Israel in conversation with ANI, said, “The Israeli Police has confirmed to us that dead bodies of 10 Nepalis has been confirmed. Some are still out of contact and some are in serious medical condition, so the number might go up. An announcement about it in detail is due from the Foreign Ministry.” Labour minister of Thailand Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn said in an interview on Thai television that there are about 5,000 labourers working in the fighting zone. Among them, 1,099 who have registered to return home. Foreign ministry spokeswoman Kanchana said Thai air force planes were on standby to fly citizens home, though the date and other details of any evacuation were still being worked on.
On the other hand, Nepal’s Minister for Foreign Affairs NP Saud said in a post shared on X,”The latest update on attack in Israel’s southern region since 6:30 AM (Nepali Time), Oct. 7, 2023, and its repercussions on Nepalis in the affected area are as follows: At present, there are approximately 4,500 Nepali nationals serving as caregivers in Israel. Additionally, 265 Nepali students are participating in Israel’s learning and earning program, sponsored by the Israeli government.” “Of these students, 119 hail from Agriculture and Forestry University, 97 from Tribhuvan University, and 49 from Far-Western University. Notably, 17 of the 49 students from Sudurpaschim University were studying in Kibbutz Alumim, located in southern Israel.”
