Online Desk: With the previous rise just around one week ago, gold prices have surged again by Tk 1,749 per bhori to reach a record high of Tk 1,08,125.

The Bangladesh Jewellers’ Association (Bajus) announced the new price hike in a statement issued on Sunday, which will be effective from today (Monday).

According to the new pricing, 22-carat premium quality gold will be sold at Tk 9,270 per gram or Tk 108,125 per bhori (11.664 grams).

This marks the sixth consecutive gold price increase in the local market. The previous hike occurred on November 19.

As the reason for the new price increase, the jewellers association says that the prices have been adjusted due to the rise in the price of pure gold in the local market.

Prior to the latest hike, the price of premium quality gold was fixed at Tk 9,120 per gram or Tk 106,376 per bhori.

Prices of other gold qualities also saw an uptick as 21-carat gold now stands at Tk 8,850 per gram, while 18-carat gold is priced at Tk 7,585 per gram.

Besides, traditional (sanatan) gold prices also increased to Tk 6,320 per gram.

Silver prices, however, remained unchanged from their previous levels. Per gram of 22, 21 and 18-carat silver will continue to be sold at Tk 147, Tk 140 and Tk 120, respectively.

The Bajus requested all jewellers to follow the new pricing until further notice.

Sources said that the five per cent value-added tax (VAT) and ornament-making costs will be added to the new gold and silver prices set by the association.
