Online Desk: Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun on Saturday said that the first and foremost task of the police is to maintain law and order and establish themselves as public servants.
“And we are moving towards that goal,” said the IGP, who was speaking Saturday at the 40th Annual General Meeting of Bangladesh Retired Police Officers’ Welfare Association (BRPOWA) at Rajarbagh.
Acting president of the association, retired DIG Bir Muktijoddha Md. Waliar Rahman presided over the meeting, while incumbent and retired police officers were present.
The IGP said the police formed the first armed resistance during the Liberation War. Police have faced many challenges in the past in maintaining law and order and are moving ahead with the conviction to face down any challenge in maintaining law and order in the country.
Referring to the unique contribution of the retired police officers, the nation’s serving Top Cop said in Bangladesh, the police has been able to earn the public’s trust and love by working for the welfare of the country and people along the path shown by the retired officers.
The IGP said that there are many retired police officers who have contributed significantly to the overall development of Bangladesh Police. The current police are standing on the base created by you. “We remember your contribution with gratitude.”
He expressed hope that the new police officers will try to achieve success in their respective fields by taking advice and guidance from the ones who have retired.
The police chief said Bangladesh Retired Police Officers Welfare Association is well-known as a welfare organization, that has been working for people’s welfare for 40 years.
The IG highly appreciated the various social service activities of the association.
The IGP paid his deepest respects to the deceased members of the association and wished for their eternal peace.
The IGP said that the country has achieved massive development under the leadership of the Prime Minister. Bangladesh Police has also made great progress and equally great contributions
In the meeting, five senior members of the association were awarded with honorary crests.
Besides, 29 meritorious children of police officials who obtained good results in the SSC examination were awarded ‘Late Mohiuddin Ahmad Chowdhury-M Sahidul Islam Chowdhury Education Scholarship’ administered by the association.
