Online Desk: Bangladesh has sought US support for further development of its aviation sector as the government is working to make Bangladesh a regional aviation hub.

The issue was discussed when Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) Chairman Air Vice Marshal M Mafidur Rahman met US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Haas at the CAAB headquarters on Monday.

The issue of resuming Dhaka-New York direct flight and the US ambassador assured his government’s cooperation so that Biman can resume flights on that route, according to meeting sources.

The two sides also discussed uplifting Bangladesh to category-1 from category-2 so that Bangladeshi airlines can operate flights to the US.

The CAAB chairman briefed the US envoy about various efforts made by the CAAB and Biman in line with graduating Bangladesh to category-1 following the guideline of Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) of the US.

Currently Biman is reviewing the commercial potentials of procuring new planes amid the ongoing global economic hardship.
