The Daily Morning Voice Online Desk: A man was beaten up allegedly by activists of Chittagong University unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League after he attended a viva exam at the university for the post of lecturer this afternoon. Nur Hossain, former 2003-04 batch student of the Political Science Department of CU, said he was beaten up by the activists of Varsity Express (VX) — a subgroup of BCL — accusing him of being a member of controversial student organisation Islami Chhatra Shibir.
The incident took place outside the vice-chancellor’s meeting room at the administrative building, reports our CU correspondent. Eyewitnesses said after completing the viva, Nur Hossain was beaten up by some BCL activists. However, the BCL leaders denied the allegation.
Pradip Chakraborty Durjoy, vice-president of CU BCL and leader of VX group, said, “Nur Hossain is a Shibir man and he was involved in assaults of many BCL men from 2003 to 2010 when he was a student of the university. So, we went to the VC office to file a complaint against him. But no one beat him up.” University Proctor Dr Rabiul Hasan Bhuiyan said, “Some BCL activists came to the VC office and tried to create an untoward situation during the viva examination. “We cannot stop any candidate from participating in the examination on the basis of someone’s complaint.”
